Update 6.9.21 - Industry Leader Weekly Update

Our next town hall is on June 18th at 11am, Register here and submit your questions in advance by emailing saras@car.org and paulag@car.org. Please bookmark this page to access the agenda and questions for Friday. Below are your pertinent updates for this week:

California’s Reopening on June 15
The California Department of Public Health announced that the California economy is reopening on June 15th. President Dave Walsh has provided a quick video update that you can view here. We recognize that there are many questions about what that will mean and have put together a Q&A to answer your questions. Find the information here. Please share with your agents and let us know if you have any questions. There are many COVID relief resources still relevant during this transition:

Paycheck Protection Program Loan Forgiveness

Pandemic Unemployment Assistance

Sick Leave Obligations and Tax Relief for Employers

Market Update
While the outlook for the economy and the market remains bright, both are encountering supply constraints as the reopening continues. Despite a surge in consumer spending and an improving job market, labor and material shortages  have  become  hurdles  that  the  recovery  needs  to  overcome.  As  such,  inflation  and  slower  job  growth  remain topics of concern when discussing how fast the U.S. can get back to its pre-pandemic levels. Meanwhile, the housing market has had solid performance since the second half of 2020 but is showing signs of moderations in recent weeks. As tight supply continues to apply upward pressure on prices,  the market momentum could slow as affordability issues kick in in the second half of the year. For the full write up - go here

Legislative Update
This past week brought some good legislative news. SB 539 (Hertzberg) which is the implementing legislation for Proposition 19 passed the Senate without any “No” votes. The bipartisan vote reflects the efforts by stakeholders to ensure this is a consensus bill. Certain Senators who are on record as wanting certain provisions of Prop 19 changed voted for it recognizing that implementation language is nonetheless necessary and that any real change to the provisions of 19 would require a new ballot initiative.

C.A.R. also was the primary source of opposition to AB 255 (Muratsuchi). This bill set out onerous requirements which would have had the effect of complicating commercial evictions, harming commercial property owners already hurting from the economic effects of Covid-19 pandemic while likely providing limited if any real relief to tenants. The bill has now died for this year. For the full weekly report go here

Tomorrow 6/10 at 10:30am we are having our Top Producer/Team Leader Forum. This forum is designed to be similar to our Friday Town Halls for the brokerage community. We are fortunate to have Industry veteran Steve Murray of RealTrends joining us to share his perspective on the real estate industry.

If you have Top Producers and Team Leaders in your offices that you feel would benefit from this type of a forum, please have them register here. Please know that our goal is to foster compliance, best practices and provide a neutral opportunity to network with their peers. Please email saras@car.org for more info.
